Draft. Not in force.
This document is a draft. It is not legal advice and it is not in force. It becomes required only when the owner adopts it by a recorded decision in nexus-governance. Until then nothing here blocks anyone’s work.
When
I make this declaration once a year and again for each submission, review or decision, using the reference given. I update it if my interests change.
What counts
An interest is anything that a reasonable person could think affects my judgement or the work:
- financial: employment, consulting, fees, grants, equity, patents, paid advocacy;
- professional: same institution, collaboration or coauthorship in the last 3 years, supervision, rivalry, membership of a body affected by the work;
- personal: family, close friendship, conflict or dispute;
- political, religious or advocacy commitments directly relevant to the subject.
What I declare
I list each interest in the field provided, or I state that I have none. I include funding of the work and the role of any funder.
What follows
Authors: declarations are published with the work. Reviewers: I decline if the conflict is material, and the editor decides the rest. Editors and board members: I step out of the matter and the recusal is recorded. Undeclared conflicts found later can lead to a correction, a re-review or an appeal.
Privacy
The declaration text is kept with the submission record under the Data Protection and Privacy Notice. Authors’ declarations are public. Others are visible to the managing editor and the council.
Record
My acceptance is recorded in the acceptance ledger. It is an acceptance record by my signed-in account, not a qualified electronic signature.
Governing law (proposal)
The laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Counsel to confirm.
