Usage terms
- Intended use
- Research and risk-analytics information
- Not a credit rating
- NIS outputs are indicator composites with published methodology, not opinions on the creditworthiness of any entity, debt or issuer, and use no rating-category scale (EU Regulation 1060/2009 and equivalents).
- Not an ESG rating
- NIS outputs are not ESG ratings of undertakings, issuers or financial instruments; scoring an entity's ESG profile for third parties in the EU needs ESMA authorisation under Regulation (EU) 2024/3005 (applies from 2 July 2026).
- Not a benchmark
- NIS indices are not licensed as benchmarks for financial instruments, financial contracts or fund performance; any such use needs a separate licence and an administrator assessment under the EU and UK Benchmarks Regulations and the IOSCO principles.
- Not official statistics
- NIS outputs are Nexus-modelled; they are not official statistics and are not endorsed by any source publisher.
- Not for natural persons
- NIS outputs must not be used to evaluate natural persons (creditworthiness, insurance pricing, access to essential services); such uses are high-risk under the EU AI Act Annex III.
- Attribution
- Derived values carry the attribution chain of every licensed input; share-alike and non-commercial inputs are excluded from commercial products.
- Private data
- Tenant datasets stay in the tenant's scope; personal data is refused; outputs inherit the most restrictive confidentiality of the datasets used.
Institutions
The Nexus Consortium is stewarded by three independent not-for-profit institutions: GCRI Canada as Lead Institution, Consortium Secretariat and lead contracting organization, The Global Risks Forum (GRF) and The Global Risks Alliance (GRA). Technology, infrastructure and service providers work with the Consortium at arm's length under written agreements, like every other external party in the public-private-planet model, and hold no role in its stewardship.
GCRI Canada leads the public-good Nexus Consortium as Lead Institution, Consortium Secretariat and lead contracting organization. GRF and GRA retain independent institutional mandates as consortium stewards. Technology, infrastructure and service providers act at arm's length and have no control over institutional governance, research, publications, national priorities or customer, sovereign and community data.
Names and marks
External index, standard and organisation names belong to their stewards and are cited for interoperability only. Risk classes are bands on a published scale; they are not rankings, ratings or judgements of any country or people. Country names follow UN M49; a listing takes no position on the status of any territory. Map boundaries are shown at 1:110m for location only.
