Data provenance
Information about the entities, activities and people involved in producing a piece of data, used to assess its quality, reliability or trustworthiness (W3C PROV).
Disaster loss database
A set of systematically collected records about disaster occurrence, damages, losses and impacts, compliant with the Sendai Framework monitoring minimum requirements (UN, 2016).
Min-max normalisation
Rescaling an indicator to a fixed range by subtracting a minimum and dividing by the range; INFORM rescales core indicators to 0-10 this way, with log transformation for very skewed data.
Lack of Coping Capacity
The INFORM dimension for the absence of institutional and infrastructure resources that help a country absorb and recover from a crisis, aggregated by geometric mean of two categories.
Vulnerability (INFORM)
The INFORM dimension for hazard-independent susceptibility, combining socio-economic vulnerability and vulnerable groups through a geometric average.
Hazard and Exposure
The INFORM dimension for hazard-dependent factors: natural hazards (earthquake, flood, tsunami, cyclone, drought, epidemic) and human hazards (conflict), aggregated by geometric mean with equal weights.
Risk propeller
The IPCC AR6 depiction of risk as the interaction of hazard, exposure and vulnerability, with ‘wings’ showing how responses modulate each determinant.
Adaptive capacity
The ability of systems, institutions, humans and other organisms to adjust to potential damage, to take advantage of opportunities or to respond to consequences (IPCC AR6 WGII glossary).
Coping capacity
The ability of people, organizations and systems, using available skills and resources, to manage adverse conditions, risk or disasters (UN, 2016).
